Many SUV reviews compare the Tribute to the its sister, the Ford Escape. The newer platform has been well received with one exception. The interior color combination. Automobile Reviews disliked some of the color combinations, but has also enjoyed other aspects of the interior usability.

Mazda USA has corrected the error of the 2008 model and have stuck to the more neutral colors and left the two tone colors alone. This was a good move on Mazda's part.

Most will notice the re-badging of the Mazda Tribute and see that the Ford Escape has refreshed itself with high-tech interior features that reviewers love, the Tribute has missed the boat. While compact SUVs like the Mazda CX7 and Mazda CX9 have gotten curvier and more car-like, the Mazda Tribute is an old-school small SUV. Automobile Reviews say it does have good fuel economy (and a hybrid model, available in California), but has been left behind in the looks department. If looks are not the number one priority on your list, and funtionality and reliability are, then the Mazda Tribute is worth looking and keeping on your list.
